Looking At The Importance Of Police Car Video Cameras

Police car video cameras, alongside body cameras for police officers, have become widely utilized all throughout the United States. They are used for the sake of the police officers themselves, as well as for the sake of those who they approach, those who may or may not be breaking the law. It’s important that police work is monitored through the use of police car video cameras, as a key part of activism has become a fight against police brutality.

Add on to this the fact that police work can often be dangerous and we can see clearly that the use of police car video cameras can be used to better assess a major event that happens with far more clarity than would otherwise be possible. After all, with more than ninety percent of eight thousand police officers saying that they feel more concerned about potential dangers while on the job in recent year, police car video cameras have become more important than ever before.

And police car video cameras and body cameras for law enforcement professionals can help to improve police conduct as well, something that up to half of all current police officers believe to be the case. This has been proven in part, with police officers who use said body cameras actually getting far less public complaints than police officers who do not wear any type of police body cam. In fact, the complaints are seen to be reduced by as much as ninety three percent, an impressive figure by any means.

This is, at least in part (a major part, however), due to the fact that it has been found that the use of tools like police car video cameras and body-worn cameras actually reduce force on the part of police officers by as much as sixty percent. The presence of body cameras or police car video cameras has also been linked to better interactions on behalf of citizens, with data clearly showing that more than half of all police administrators here in the United States (about fifty two percent of them, to be a little more exact) say that the use of something like a police dash camera system or body cam can be directly linked to better cooperation on behalf of the public.

And police car video cameras and body cams and the like are more widely utilized now in our current year than they have ever been before, in part because of the fact that so much national and even some international attention has turned to focus on police conduct and, namely, instances of police brutality and excessive force. In fact, more than half of all police officers (sixty six percent, to be exact) think that police body cameras should be warn and an overwhelming majority – ninety three percent – of the rest of the residents of the United States think that this should be the case on a widespread basis, if not for every single police officer who is currently working in this country.

And while police body cameras and police car video cameras are not yet universal, we are getting there. For instance, up to seventy two percent of all state patrol cars now have some type of in car video system, marking a huge jump in the prevalence of police car video systems since the year of 2000, when only just over ten percent of the same patrol cars had such systems in place and actively in use.

And by the time that we had reached the March of 2015, now more than three years ago, up to one third of all police officers were wearing a police cam on their person every time that they were on the job and patrolling the streets. Of the eighteen thousand of the police departments open and operational throughout the United States, this accounted for a considerable chunk of them, to say the least. And in the few years that have passed since, this number and this percentage have only considered to increase, especially as public demand for it has also continued to rise.

There’s no doubt that police car video cameras are more utilized – and more important – than ever.
